Samina Chowdhury set to launch music academy for aspiring musicians
After five decades in music, Samina Chowdhury is now preparing to take on a new role as a music mentor.
The singer, who completed 50 years in her music career this year, is set to establish a music academy named Samina’s Academy of Music (SAM). The initiative aims to provide proper guidance to aspiring musicians of the new generation.
Samina began her musical journey in 1976 when she won first place in the patriotic song category of Bangladesh Television’s children’s talent competition “Notun Kuri”. She made her debut in film songs in 1981 with the title track of “Jonmo Theke Jolchi”. She has continued to perform and release music over the years.
As Samina spends part of the year in the United States, she plans to operate the academy in both Bangladesh and the US. Classes will be offered both online and in person.
“The activities of Samina’s Academy of Music will mainly be conducted online. However, there will also be arrangements for those who want to learn in person. That will be available in both Bangladesh and the United States,” Samina told Ajker Patrika.
She is currently in Bangladesh and will travel to the United States on September 22. She plans to return after two months, after which she will complete the remaining preparations and officially announce the academy.
“Many people have been telling me for a long time to teach music. Swapon (Samina Chowdhury’s husband) also repeatedly suggested that I establish an academy. So, I decided to start teaching music,” she said.
The logo for SAM has already been designed, and Samina hopes to begin its activities later this year.
Meanwhile, she continues to work on her own music. She recently recorded a new song written by Faruk Anwar and composed by Samrat Ahmed. The song will be released on the FA Music YouTube channel.
