20 legendary Ayub Bachchu songs reimagined in tribute to late maestro

Twenty of Ayub Bachchu’s most beloved songs will be released in new musical arrangements, performed by eight Bangladeshi bands and 12 artistes as part of a tribute project titled “Uttoradhikar”.

The double-CD album will be released on August 16, coinciding with the legendary musician’s birth anniversary. The songs will also be available on digital platforms.

Proceeds from the project will be used to establish the Ayub Bachchu Guitar Museum, a long-standing dream of the late musician’s family and the Ayub Bachchu Foundation.

Details of the project will be announced at a press conference on August 16 at The Daily Star office. Ferdous Akhtar Chondona, Ayub Bachchu’s wife and chairperson of the Ayub Bachchu Foundation, will speak at the event.

The participating bands are Dalchhut, Arbovirus, Shonar Bangla Circus, Shuvojatra, Calypso, RockSalt, Dopamine, and AK Rahul. The solo artistes featured in the album are Babna Karim, Russell Ali, Romel Ali, Chandan Zaman Ali, Kaniz Subarna, Sazzad, Palash, Joy Shahriar, Adit, Bakhtiar Hossain, Atika Yamin, and Autumnal Moon. All the songs have been mastered by Iqbal Asif Jewel.

Dalchhut has performed “Rupali Guitar”, Arbovirus “Neel Bedona”, Shonar Bangla Circus “Gotokal Rate”, Shuvojatra “Cholo Bodley Jai”, Calypso “Chand Mama”, RockSalt “Ochena Jibon”, Dopamine “Madhobi”, and AK Rahul “Mon Chaile Mon”.

Among the solo artistes, Babna Karim and Russell Ali have performed “Hashte Dekho”, Romel Ali “Ekhon Onek Raat”, Chandan Zaman Ali “Meye”, Kaniz Subarna and Sazzad “Koshto Pete Bhalobashi”, Palash “Apon Keho Nai”, Joy Shahriar “Koshto Kake Bole”, Adit “Ghumonto Shohore”, Bakhtiar Hossain “Rater Tara”, Atika Yamin “Ferari Mon”, Autumnal Moon “Hawker”, Kanak Acharya “Nirobe”, and Tawfiq-AB-Menon “Bangladesh”.

Ayub Bachchu’s love for guitars was well known among his fans. He collected guitars from renowned brands from different parts of the world, including Austria and the United States.

His family and the Ayub Bachchu Foundation are planning to establish a museum featuring around 50 of his guitars, including his cherished Fender Stratocaster and Ibanez JEM 77. The guitars are currently preserved at his home in Moghbazar, with Ferdous Akhtar Chondona carefully looking after the memorabilia.

Around three years ago, the family organised two exhibitions in Dhaka and Chattogram, showcasing several of Bachchu’s guitars.

For nearly eight years, the family has been dreaming of establishing a museum dedicated to the musician’s legacy, featuring his guitars, various equipment from AB Kitchen, caps, T-shirts, and other personal memorabilia.
