'Obsession’ star Inde Navarrette joins Marvel’s ‘X-Men’

Inde Navarrette, who became famous for her role in the horror hit “Obsession”, has been cast as Rogue in Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated “X-Men” reboot.

Navarrette had previously revealed that she had met with “X-Men” director Jake Schreier following the release of “Obsession”. At the time, the actress expressed interest in playing Mystique, describing the character as “super cool”.

With her casting as Rogue, Navarrette takes over the role previously portrayed by Anna Paquin in the live-action “X-Men” franchise. In Marvel Comics, Rogue is a powerful mutant whose ability to absorb another person’s powers, memories and abilities through physical contact makes her one of the franchise’s most distinctive characters.

The upcoming reboot will introduce a new generation of mutants to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Marvel Studios gradually unveiling the film’s ensemble cast.

At Disney’s D23 showcase, Marvel announced several major additions to the cast. Christopher Abbott is set to play Professor Charles Xavier, while Samara Weaving has been cast as Emma Frost. Adam Driver will portray the villainous Mr Sinister, and Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey, a character who is also set to appear in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”.

Kit Connor has also been announced as Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops. The character, whose optic blasts are among his defining abilities, eventually becomes one of the central leaders of the X-Men. Emma Frost, meanwhile, is a powerful telepath who can also transform her body into diamond.

The new casting comes as Marvel Studios prepares to bring the X-Men and their wider mutant mythology fully into the MCU. The franchise has previously been led on screen by actors including Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry and Anna Paquin, among others.

Rogue’s casting also marks a new chapter for one of Marvel’s most popular female mutants. Paquin portrayed the character throughout the original “X-Men” film series, beginning with the 2000 film “X-Men” and returning for several subsequent instalments.

In the Marvel Comics, mutants are considered the next stage of human evolution. Born with a genetic mutation known as the X-gene, they typically develop extraordinary abilities around puberty.

Their powers often make mutants targets of fear and discrimination, forming the foundation of the X-Men’s broader themes of prejudice, identity and acceptance. Professor Xavier, one of the world’s most powerful telepaths, establishes a school for young mutants, providing them with a safe environment in which to understand and control their abilities.

With Navarrette now stepping into the role of Rogue alongside a growing cast of established Marvel characters, the upcoming “X-Men” reboot is shaping up to be a major new chapter in the MCU’s expanding mutant storyline.
