Legendary singer Asha Bhosle has been admitted to the ICU at Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday after suffering from cardiac and respiratory complications. The 92-year-old artiste had reportedly been unwell for several months, and hospital sources describe her condition as critical.

Following reports of her hospitalisation, her granddaughter, singer Zanai Bhosle, shared a statement on X, clarifying that the veteran singer was admitted due to extreme exhaustion along with a chest infection. She requested privacy for the family, adding that treatment is ongoing and they remain hopeful about her recovery.

Widely regarded as one of the most accomplished voices in Hindi cinema, Asha Bhosle has enjoyed a remarkable career spanning more than eight decades, recording songs in multiple Indian languages for films and albums. Over the years, she has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, awarded in 2008.

Her vast repertoire includes iconic songs such as "Dil Cheez Kya Hai," "Inn Aankhon Ki Masti Ke," "Ye Kya Jagah Hai Doston," and "Jab Bhi Milti Hai." Known for her versatility, she moved beyond early typecasting in upbeat dance numbers like "Piya Tu Ab To Aaja" and "O Haseena Zulfon Wali" to deliver memorable ghazals and classical pieces.

Born into a musical legacy, Asha Bhosle recorded her first film song, "Chala Chala Nav Bala," for the Marathi film "Majha Bal" in 1943. She continues to remain culturally relevant, embracing contemporary music and digital platforms. In 2023, she marked her 90th birthday with a live concert in Dubai. The following year, she went viral after performing "Tauba Tauba" by Karan Aujla at a concert, even recreating popular dance steps from the film "Bad Newz", originally featuring Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri.

Now 92, the celebrated singer is set to turn 93 on September 8, 2026, and remains an enduring icon in Indian music history.
