Legendary Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila has dismissed rumours surrounding her death, calling them “strange misinformation” after false reports spread widely across social media following an event in Delhi.

Runa Laila is currently in India to attend a ceremony where she received the Minar-E-Dilli award. Soon after the programme concluded on Monday evening, rumours claiming that the singer had died began circulating online, causing concern among fans and well-wishers both at home and abroad.

Speaking from Delhi yesterday afternoon, the artiste said she had been overwhelmed by calls and messages from different countries. “People from Bangladesh, the United States, England, India, Pakistan and elsewhere have been contacting me, asking if I am alright. It is truly shocking,” she said.

Expressing frustration over the spread of such rumours, Runa Laila noted that false news of this nature can be emotionally distressing not only for public figures but also for their families. She suggested that similar rumours involving celebrities in the past may point to the existence of an organised group responsible for spreading misinformation, adding that those involved should be identified.

Earlier, the singer addressed the matter through a post on her verified Facebook account, where she clarified that she was “completely healthy and well”.

“Some strange rumours are being spread about my death. I want everyone to know that I am completely healthy and doing well,” she wrote, urging people not to share unverified information.

She further described the spread of false information as irresponsible and unnecessary, while also expressing gratitude to fans and well-wishers for their concern and support.
