Legendary Bangladeshi rock band Warfaze is preparing to celebrate its 42nd anniversary with new music and a special tribute concert dedicated to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson in July.

Founded in the early 1980s, the band will officially enter its 42nd year on June 6. While no major anniversary event has been planned for the occasion, the band will perform at a private concert in Dhaka on the same day.

Band leader Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu said the anniversary coincidentally falls on a scheduled performance date. “By chance, we have a concert on our anniversary. We may cut a cake there and celebrate together,” he said.

He also revealed that Warfaze is planning to release two new songs this month. “One of them is a reimagined version of ‘Kromosho’, originally from our 1996 album ‘Jibondhara’. The song has been rearranged musically and will be released this month. The other is a title track for a film. Due to production-related restrictions, we cannot reveal further details at this stage, but it should be released soon,” he added.

Meanwhile, the band is gearing up for a solo concert titled “Playlist: Tribute to Originals” on July 2 at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre. The event is being organised by Brandmyth.

Alongside their own catalogue, Warfaze will perform a selection of Michael Jackson’s songs during the concert.

Explaining the concept behind the event, organisers said Michael Jackson continues to enjoy enduring popularity worldwide, while Warfaze is currently experiencing a landmark period in its career after completing four decades in music and recently receiving the prestigious Ekushey Padak.

“We wanted to create something unique by bringing together the legacy of Michael Jackson and Warfaze,” organisers said.

Tipu described the upcoming concert as one of the band’s most ambitious projects in recent years.

“It is going to be a fantastic show. We are preparing intensively and plan to perform around 10 to 12 Michael Jackson songs, alongside our own music. We will also invite several guest artistes to join us on stage,” he said.

Organisers have announced that ticket sales for “Playlist: Tribute to Originals” will begin soon through the online ticketing platform Get Set Rock.

Warfaze’s current lineup consists of Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu, Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal, Palash Noor, Naim Hoque Roger, Shams Mansoor Ghani, Samir Hafiz, and Soumen Das.
