Warfaze returns with new single ‘Girgiti’, set for first UK tour
Legendary Bangladeshi rock band Warfaze has unveiled the first single from its upcoming studio album, marking the band’s return to the format after 14 years. Titled “Girgiti”, the track was released on Monday (July 6) as the first glimpse of Warfaze’s eighth studio album, while the band also prepares for its first-ever concert tour in the United Kingdom.
Written by Shams Mansoor Ghani and K M Imranul Haque Ritul, “Girgiti” has been arranged and visually produced by Upstudio Production House. The song will also serve as the title track for director Sourav Kundu’s upcoming film “Girgiti”, starring ABM Sumon and Purnima Bristi. Although filming began in 2019, production was delayed by several setbacks. The filmmakers said work on the project is expected to resume soon, with details on the shooting schedule and release to be announced later.
The song was officially launched at an event in Dhaka attended by members of Warfaze, along with the cast and crew of “Girgiti”.
Speaking about the release, vocalist Palash Noor described the song as one of the most demanding projects of his career.
“For us, every song is a form of storytelling, and ‘Girgiti’ is no exception. Recording for a film brought its own challenges because it had to match the director’s vision. At one point I doubted myself, but the encouragement from my bandmates kept me going. After hearing the final version, I felt all the hard work had paid off,” he said.
Despite releasing the lead single, the band has yet to reveal the title of its forthcoming album. Band leader and drummer Sheikh Monirul Alam Tipu said Warfaze traditionally waits until all songs are completed before deciding on an album name.
“We’ve followed this approach with our previous albums as well. Once every track is finished, we’ll choose the title collectively,” he said.
Tipu also announced that Warfaze will embark on its first-ever UK tour in the band’s 42-year history. The group is scheduled to perform in several cities during the visit, including an appearance at “Bangla Fest and Awards UK” at The Royal Regency in London on July 19.
The band will leave Bangladesh tomorrow and return on July 23.
Following the UK tour, Warfaze will headline a tribute concert dedicated to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, on August 2 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka. Titled “Playlist: Tribute to Originals”, the concert is being organised by Brandmyth and Mars & Co.
