Nationwide artists to gather for Nazrul Year conference this July
The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will organise a day-long artists’ conference on July 12 as part of preparations for the year-long “Nazrul Year 2026–2027” celebrations.
According to a press release, the conference will be held from 11:00am to 5:00pm at the National Art Gallery Auditorium of the academy under the patronage of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
The event aims to honour the enduring contributions of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to Bengali literature and the country’s cultural heritage, while gathering suggestions from artists to make the nationwide celebrations more inclusive and people-oriented.
Organisers said the conference will provide an opportunity to present the academy’s plans for the year-long observance and incorporate feedback from artists representing various disciplines from across Bangladesh.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury is expected to attend the programme as chief guest. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom and Policy and Strategy Adviser to the Ministries of Information and Broadcasting and Cultural Affairs Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, who holds the rank of state minister, will attend as special guests.
The conference will be chaired by Kaniz Mowla, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed will deliver the welcome address, while Academy Secretary Mohammad Zakir Hossain will offer the vote of thanks.
The academy has invited artists from across the country to participate in the conference, expressing hope that their active involvement and constructive recommendations will help make the “Nazrul Year 2026–2027” celebrations more vibrant, meaningful and representative of the nation’s cultural diversity.
