Aamir Khan has addressed the criticism surrounding his marriage to Gauri Spratt, firmly rejecting allegations of "love jihad". The actor said his family is inclusive and emphasised that religion has never played a role in his relationships.

Amid ongoing online discussions about his third marriage to longtime partner Gauri Spratt, Aamir clarified that the accusations are baseless. He stressed that none of his relationships involved religious conversion and dismissed claims suggesting otherwise.

Responding to the allegations in an interview with Rediff, Aamir said that his family has always embraced people from different faiths. He pointed out that both of his sisters are married to Hindus, his daughter has a Hindu husband, and his cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian.

The actor further clarified that none of his former or current spouses converted to Islam. He noted that his marriages to Reena Dutta, Kiran Rao and Gauri Spratt were civil unions, with no religious conversion involved. Aamir also pointed out that Gauri is a Christian by birth and is not a practising Christian. Referring to the controversy, he remarked that the situation was becoming increasingly absurd with time.

The controversy escalated when Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane criticised Aamir Khan's third marriage and labelled it as an instance of "love jihad". Subsequently, Shahi Chief Mufti Maulana Chaudhary Ibrahim Husain of the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta in Uttar Pradesh issued a fatwa against the union, arguing that it did not comply with Islamic principles and laws governing marriage.

Aamir first introduced Gauri to the public during his 60th birthday celebrations, revealing that although they had known each other for nearly 25 years, they had reconnected only a few years ago.

The actor was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two children, Ira and Junaid. Following their divorce, he married filmmaker Kiran Rao. The couple later welcomed their son, Azad, before announcing their separation in 2021.
