Bangladesh women's team slumped to a massive 79-run defeat, their third in three matches, against India in their Group B match of the Women's World Twenty20 at the Sylhet Cricket Stadium yesterday.
Chasing a massive victory target of 152, Bangladesh managed to accumulate 72 for eight in their allotted 20 overs. Jhulan Goswami and Shubhalakhsmi Sharma took three wickets each to cause the batting collapse.
Earlier, opener Harmanpreet Kaur and Mithali Raj set the platform for a big innings with a 107-run opening stand. Kaur scored 77 and while Mithali made 41 as India amassed 151 for five.
Meanwhile, England stormed into the semifinals with a seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka. England restricted the Lankans for meagre 85 runs, thanks to a three wicket haul from Anya Schrubsole.
Sri Lanka skipper Shashikala Siriwardene played a lone hand as she scored 38 runs while no other batswoman managed to reach double figures. Siriwardene then took two wickets, but England eased to the target losing three wickets, with 24 balls to spare.
