Eid usually means a rush of people travelling from the city back to their village homes. However, for the younger generation, is home merely a place, or does it represent a deeper emotional bond?

This question forms the core of this year’s Eid story, “Home Not Coming”. Alongside the relationships with parents, family members and relatives, the film also highlights the emotions and connections shared among friends.

Directed by Jahid Preetom, the three-and-a-half-minute short film shows the story of Azim, who does not want to travel to the village to celebrate Eid with his parents. Instead, he wishes to stay in the city and celebrate with his friends.

Although he eventually goes to the village out of obligation, his heart remains with his friends in the city. He continues to post photos of different moments from the village on social media. Seeing these posts, Azim’s friends decide to travel to the village to celebrate Eid with him.

The film features performances by Meraz Hasan Raian, alongside Arpita Paul, Mahadi Rahman, Moshiur Siam, and Maynul Islam Shuvo, among others. The short film has already been released on social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube and TikTok.

Director Jahid Preetom said, “Working on this Eid short film was both challenging and enjoyable. While working on it, it felt as if we had returned to our teenage years. The actors also formed genuine friendships during the process, which made it feel less like watching a performance and more like witnessing real moments of friendship.”

The short film has been produced by telecom company Airtel.
