Arifin Shuvoo makes Bollywood debut with ‘Jazz City’, release date announced

The teaser of Bollywood web series "Jazz City" has brought Arifin Shuvoo's much-anticipated Bollywood debut into focus, confirming his first appearance in a central role in a mainstream Indian project. Released yesterday (December 16) evening, the teaser has drawn attention for positioning the Bangladeshi actor at the heart of the narrative.

Bangladeshi actors have had limited representation in Bollywood, with lead roles being even rarer. Against that backdrop, "Jazz City" signals a hopeful moment, as the teaser suggests Shuvoo stands at the centre of the story for the first time in a Bollywood production.

Produced by Sony LIV, the web series features Arifin Shuvoo as Jimmy Roy. Sony LIV formally announced the project with the teaser release on Tuesday. Brief glimpses make it clear that the series revolves around Jimmy Roy, with the story, emotions and visual rhythm unfolding through his character.

In the teaser, Shuvoo appears in multiple looks — from a restrained, sombre presence in a grey slim-cut suit to a vibrant dance sequence in a crisp white ensemble. His retro hairstyle and costumes evoke the 1970s, a period he brings to life through movement, expression and restraint.

Speaking about the role, Shuvoo said, "It is a layered story where music speaks as much as dialogue. Through music, silence and emotion, 'Jazz City' creates a deep jazz-infused atmosphere." Notably, he delivers dialogues in four languages — Bangla, Hindi, Urdu and English.

"Jazz City" is set against the socio-political backdrop of post-Liberation Bangladesh and the broader realities of the 1970s, exploring tensions, transitions and internal conflicts of the time. The series is directed, written and scripted by Soumik Sen, co-creator of the acclaimed series "Jubilee". Souraseni Maitra stars opposite Shuvoo, alongside several familiar faces from Bollywood and Tollywood.

Sony LIV has confirmed that "Jazz City" will be released on February 6, 2026.

Shuvoo's most recent theatrical release was "Neelchakra", while "Thikana Bangladesh" awaits release.
