Marking the 74th birth anniversary of noted litterateur Humayun Ahmed, Channel i organised a special fair to pay tribute to Bangladesh's favourite novelist, screenwriter, and film director. The day-long fair, titled "Humayun Mela", was held today at the premises of Channel i.

The event was launched at 11 am by setting off yellow balloons into the air. The fair's main attraction was Humayun Ahmed's enthusiastic fans, who attended the event in yellow and blue costumes as his famous characters, Himu and Rupa respectively.

The inauguration was followed by musical performances by Rafiqul Alam, Selim Chowdhury and Anima Roy.

"We don't know where Humayun Ahmed is on his birthday. We are starting the fair by paying tribute to this late author," said Faridur Reza Sagar, Managing director of Channel i.

Noted actress Dilara Zaman, who acted in several projects of Humayun Ahmed, said, "Humayun Ahmed is a name of a star. All my achievements and popularity are because of him. I salute him."

"The habit of reading was waning in Bengali, after Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Humayun Ahmed started a revolution in the print industry during the seventies and eighties. The young generation of that time started reading books again through him," said Nasiruddin Yousuff Bachchu.

The fair was hosted by Apu Mahfuz, Dilruba Sathi and Monamee Mehnaz.
