India’s original celebrity talk-show host, Tabassum, passes away at 78
One of India's most popular radio personalities, interviewers, and talk-show hosts, Tabassum Govil passed away yesterday, at the age of 78, after reportedly suffering from cardiac arrest.
Long before Simi Garewal and Karan Johar, Tabassum was well-known and adored for her celebrity talk-show, "Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan"—which was aired on Doordarshan between 1972 to 1993.
"Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan" not only delighted viewers who loved celebrity conversation and trivia, but it also influenced the likes of Karan Johar, when making "Koffee With Karan"—a fact that the filmmaker has openly acknowledged in the past.
"She passed away last night, around 8:40 pm, due to cardiac arrest. She was absolutely healthy. It happened quite suddenly," said Tabassum's son, Hoshang Govil to The Sunday Express,
In recent years, the actress-turned-talk-show host had begun running a YouTube channel called, 'Tabassum Talkies'.
In 1947, Tabassum began working as a child artiste in movies, going by the name Baby Tabassum. She appeared in movies like "Nargis", "Mera Suhaag", "Manjhdhar", and "Bari Behen" in the late 1940's.
