Actress Raima Islam Shimu's dead body was recovered by the police on Monday morning, from Keraniganj's Hazratpur Bridge. Her brother confirmed her identity to police at Salimullah Medical College Hospital.

Police informed the media that Shakhawat Ali Nobel, husband of the victim, has initially confessed to killing his wife over a family feud.

The entire media is shocked by the news. What was more shocking was the fact that some people tried to establish a connection of the incident with the upcoming election of the Artistes' Association.

Rumours were circulating about the Zayed Khan's involvement in the murder with actor Zayed Khan, the current General Secretary of the association. Shimu was one of the artistes who were previously segregated from their voting rights, and the two reportedly had a tense back and forth over the incident.

MP Police Super Md Maruf Hossain Sarder confirmed to The Daily Star that Shimu's husband confessed to brutally killing her at their own residence, on Monday morning.

Zayed Khan is furious about being falsely alleged over this murder issue. "Some people are intentionally trying to frame me in this issue," he shared. "They even pressurised the victim's family to blame me!"

He also thanked RAB for arresting the culprit in such a short period of time. "Otherwise, I would have been in trouble, and would not be able to go to FDC today," he said.

"I did not meet Shimu in the past four months. However, they are spreading misinformation by saying that I had a fight with her 12 days ago, which is absurd," he adds.

Zayed Khan also said that he will take legal actions against those who are trying to frame him.

In 2018, 184 members were expelled from the Artistes' Association, and actress Shimu was one of them. "I didn't oust her, even her name is still on the supporting actor's list. However, supporting actors don't have voting rights," he explained.

Shimu made her debut in cinema with Kazi Hayat's "Bortoman" in 1998. The actress had also appeared in films of popular directors such as Chashi Nazrul Islam, Delwar Jahan Jhantu, and A J Rana, among others.

In her twenty-four years in showbiz, she had appeared more than twenty films, mostly in supporting roles. She has worked with the likes of Shakib Khan, Riaz, Amit Hasan, Bappa Raj, Zahid Hasan, and Mosharraf Karim, among others.

Shimu also appeared on television in more than fifty projects, including the recent "Family Crisis".
