Earthquake jolts parts of Bangladesh

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of the country, including Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet, around 8:49pm tonight.

The epicentre was 5km off Sylhet's Kanaighat, according to United States Geological Survey (USGS) data.

The affected countries are Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Bhutan, and China, as per Google's app on early warning and alert on earthquake.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Zahirul Islam, an assistant meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said the tremor was felt in Dhaka, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Cumilla, Kurigram, Chattogram, and Mymenshingh.
