Barapukuria plant adds electricity to grid after four-day halt
Electricity generation at one of the three units of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur resumed after remaining shut for four days.
Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddique, chief engineer of the plant, told The Daily Star that power generation resumed last night around 9:00pm after a mechanical glitch was fixed, adding around 55-60 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid.
Earlier, on Sunday morning, power generation at unit-1 -- the only unit that had been in operation for the last few months -- was suspended after a boiler tube burst.
Unit-3, which has a generation capacity of 275 MW, has remained shut since November 1 last year due to mechanical problems, while unit-2 has been out of operation since 2020.
Repairs to unit-3 are expected to be completed by March or later, depending on the arrival of required parts from China, the chief engineer added.
The coal-fired power plant has a total installed capacity of 525 MW, with unit-1 and unit-2 each having a capacity of 125 MW.
