Markets to switch off decorative lights, keep AC at 25°C or above

Agreement reached with energy ministry to implement conservation measures at shopping malls and commercial establishments

Business leaders have agreed to adopt several electricity-saving measures at shopping malls and commercial establishments following a meeting with the state minister for energy today (March 15, 2026).

At the meeting held at the Power Division, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit presided over a discussion on power and energy conservation.

According to the decisions, all decorative lighting outside shopping malls and business establishments should remain switched off.

Air conditioners used in malls and commercial establishments must be set at 25°C or above.

In addition, signboard lights of shops and business establishments must be switched off immediately after closing hours.

Leaders and representatives from the Bangladesh Shop Owners Association, Dhaka Metropolitan Shop Owners Association, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended the meeting and agreed on a set of decisions to reduce electricity consumption, said a ministry press release.
