Rain brings respite in Dhaka after sizzling heat

After weeks of a severe heatwave, Dhaka dwellers this afternoon experienced rain for the first time this summer. The rain will cause the temperature to drop, according to meteorologists.

Bringing much-awaited relief, the rain began around 5:15 pm accompanied by gusty wind and thunderstorms. It continued for a brief period of time and ended around 5:50, However, the sky remains cloudy indicating possibility of more rainfall.

"Raining started in Dhaka and many other parts of the country in the afternoon," said Bazlur Rashid, meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

"More rainfall is likely tonight and tomorrow," he said adding that it will result in a "drop in the temperature."
