Light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue across Bangladesh over the next few days, with heavy to very heavy falls expected in some areas, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

A BMD meteorologist said rainfall intensity is expected to ease on July 13 and 14, although showers will continue in many parts of the country.

Rainfall is, however, expected to intensify again from July 16 as monsoon activity strengthens.

"July is the peak monsoon month, so this level of rainfall is normal," the meteorologist said.

He said active monsoon spells typically last two to three days, with most parts of the country experiencing one or two spells of intermittent rain each day during the season.

Dhaka recorded 175mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 6:00am today, the highest in the country during the period, causing waterlogging in many parts of the capital.
