Not enough cashew nuts
Dyuty Auronee

Banani is a foodie's ultimate paradise where one can definitely find something to cater to all kinds of taste buds. I was looking for a place where I could give my birthday treat to a large group of friends within an affordable price range and food had to be different yet filling. We were also keen about the ambience because our selfies had to be perfect. Food Republic was just what I was looking for with the right kind of price, a good menu and soft yellow lights. It's new in town situated in one of the prime locations in the city, Kemal Ataturk Avenue, right next to Banani Supermarket. The highlight of the restaurant is its reasonable prices with almost all items priced below Tk. 300. The menu is diverse with seafood, Thai and Indian cuisine.

Since we were a large group of people, we could order a lot of items. We settled for grilled squid and octopus, seafood in mushroom sauce, basil squid, pad thai, black pepper chicken, chicken in mushroom sauce, sauteed beef chunks in mushroom sauce, cashew nut salad, thai noodle chowmein, egg fried rice, hariyali biriyani, tikka masala biriyani and a few Pepsi pitchers. The first four items were essentially sea food and were cooked to perfection. A lot of people might squirm at the name of these but basil squid was really fragrant and the grilled squid and octopus was spicy, just as it should be. The gravies were packed with a punch of salt and that's how I liked it. The chicken items seemed well seasoned too but I did not quite like the biriyani dishes which seemed slightly dry. Also, cashew nut salad hardly had cashews in it. The portions of all items were good enough in relation to the price.

The waiter had firstly brought us seafood in mushroom sauce whereas the order was for chicken in mushroom sauce. As soon as we let them know, they apologised and the dish was passed on as complimentary although we urged them to take it back. The well-lit spacious interior, the environment and the WiFi kept us content but there was no music. There was in fact an annoying buzz of the mixer as they were preparing drinks.
For those who pay their own bills like I do, Food Republic is a wise call if you are to treat your friends or family. It's also a must visit if you want a break from the conventional restaurant menus and refresh your taste buds.
