5 killed as train hits human haulier
At least five people were killed and eight others injured as a train hit a human haulier in Pagla Rasulpur rail gate area in Narayanganj last night.
The identity of the dead, including a woman, could not be known immediately, but witnesses said most of the dead and injured were pedestrians.
The accident took place around 10:30pm when the Narayanganj-bound passenger train from Dhaka rammed the human haulier that broke in the middle of an unmanned level crossing at Pagla Rasulpur, said Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station.
On impact of the hit, the vehicle was flung onto nearby shops, killing one person instantly, Mazid added.
The human haulier started from Jurain with about 10 passengers.
Most of them got down from the vehicle when they saw a train coming, said the police official.
Twelve people were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with injuries, where four people died around midnight.
