Winter setting in late
Though the calendar says it's time for winter, people are yet to find respite from the post-summer heat and humidity.
According to the Met Office, the temperature is still four to five degrees higher than the normal December temperature.
They, however, forecast that it may get cooler in a day or two when the cloudy weather dissipates.
"Currently a cloudy condition persists in the country. The clouds will go away by tomorrow [today] and after that the temperature will fall," Duty Forecast Officer (DFO) Sanaul Hauqe said yesterday evening.
Though winter officially starts from November, people usually start feeling the cold not until the first week of December, he said.
In the long-term forecast, the Dhaka Met office said this year may not see much drop in temperature. Three cold waves -- one towards the end of this month and two in January -- may sweep over the country this winter.
"We are not expecting severe cold this year," DFO Sanaul said.
Meanwhile, as the winter approaches, people have started selling traditional cakes at roadside outlets in the capital and other parts of the country. Sales of warm clothes too have increased.
