India sees nearly 12,000 coronavirus cases in 24 hours
India saw a record single-day increase of 11,929 coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the total number of infections to 320,922.
This is the third consecutive day that more than 10,000 cases of Covid-19 were seen in India, the fourth worst-hit nation after the US, Brazil and Russia, our new Delhi correspondent reports.
The death toll in the last 24 hours rose by 311, pushing the total to 9,195, the health ministry said.
There are 149,348 active cases of coronavirus while 162,378 people have recovered, according to ministry data updated today morning.
Over 70,000 new patients and more than 2,000 deaths have been recorded in a week as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Gujarat continued to record sharp surges and remained the worst-affected states.
Delhi, the third worst-hit state in the country by the pandemic after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, has registered nearly 38,000 cases so far. It recorded more than 2,000 cases for a second consecutive day on Saturday.
With over one lakh coronavirus cases, Maharashtra continued to remain the worst-hit state in the country. On Saturday, it saw 3,493 new patients and 127 deaths. A total of 3,717 people have died in the state so far.
