Indian national shot dead allegedly by Nepal police at border
An Indian national was killed and two others injured in a shooting incident allegedly by Nepal police along the India-Nepal border in Bihar's Sitamarhi district today, a senior official said.
The incident took place between locals and the Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal, Inspector General (IG) Sanjay Kumar of the Sashastra Seema Bal's Patna Frontier told Indian media.
One person was killed and two others were injured in the incident, he said.
The Sashastra Seema Bal, which guards India's border with Nepal, is not involved in the issue, Kumar said.
Indian officials said the locals had a confrontation with the APF over accessing an area near the international border and a scuffle broke out between the two sides resulting in firing, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Senior officials of the local police and the SSB are at the spot, they said.
The incident took place at a time when India and Nepal are going through a territorial dispute.
The India-Nepal relationship has recently come under strain after India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on May 8 inaugurated an 80km long strategic road connecting the Lipulekh pass with Dharchula in Uttarakhand.
Reacting strongly to this, Nepal claimed that the road passed through its territory, while India rejected the claim, asserting that the road lies completely within its territory.
