Is this judicial independence?
This refers to the report, “Sisi sees new future for Egypt after Mubarak verdict” (Dec.2). One may or may not welcome the court's decision. But what is surprising is that some people protested against the verdict on the streets. The Arab revolution is all but dead. In the US, protests erupted as people thought justice was not done as the police officers involved in the killing of Michael Brown and Eric Garner were not indicted by the grand jury. One chief justice of the US has said that judicial independence is public property. However, such protests need to be peaceful. Time will say whether Egypt can regain its past glory.
