How to look fancy at winter parties!

Winter is a season of celebrations! It comes with holiday parties, brunches with the girls, hangouts over dinner with friends or family, late night BBQ welcoming the new year, garden parties enjoying the chilly weather and of course... the weddings, the weddings, and the weddings!

While you have your outfits for grand events all set or still at the tailors, the others can use some rehashing depending on the look you want, which of course should be different based on the type of party you are attending. It's good (or great) to know how to implement small changes into your attire and look fancy as ever, without being too gaudy or over-the-top.
Bagdoom brings you tips on how to look fancy at these winter parties that you can start trying right today!

Velvet outfits
They say, wearing velvet was once a sign of wealth and high social status. Well it is no more the case now (oh come on!), but we cannot deny that good quality velvet in the right amounts and colour, looks luxurious than ever. Adding in velvet to your wardrobe in winter is a classic. Winter nights call for deep coloured velvet like maroon, midnight blue, bottle green or the ever elegant black. For casual western wear, go for velvet tops, dresses, skirt and for traditional, nothing beats a velvet blouse with karchupi work done with a minimal, solid coloured sari.

Style alert: Avoid bright coloured and poor quality velvet materials.

Lace outfits
Lace outfits are vintage, chic and timeless. For a little calm of the occasions, put on a lace sari and add in a pearl set. You can also out on a top with a little lace in around the collars, sleeves or as a design. It is an instant fancy up machine!

Style alert: Do not do too much lace, avoid shiny poor quality materials and do not show way too much skin through the lace than necessary, as it will completely offset the look you are aiming for instead.

Chiffon, silk or satin top
Instead of wearing a little too casual materials or t-shirt tops, opt for chiffon, silk or satin tops in deep or pastel colours with solid pants to bring in utter sophistication and at the same time keeping it minimal and of the right amount of fanciness.
Bold, deep lips

While bold red lipstick maybe a little too 'on the face' in summer, winter nights can be dazzled with red. As you know, 'when all else fails, wear red lipstick', so even if your outfit is a little plain, fancy it up with some spread of red on your lips! It is bound to make you look fierce and fancy.

Since deep (I mean super deep) colours are very trendy these days, for some reason, winter as a season complements those even more.

Style alert: Avoid too many colours in your makeup when wearing red on your lips and keep the colour combinations of your lip colour and attire in line..

Dark nail polish
Deep nail polish changes your look even after not being on your face. It adds a pop of colour and makes you look balanced and of course oh so fancy!

Style alert: Best to wear a complementing or contrasting nail colour with your outfit and not a totally out of place one.

Up-dos and pretty braids
Nothing cries out elegance like a beautiful up-do and of course a super cute braid like fishtails or the French. Rather than a more common 'let down your hair' or a ponytail, a different hairdo completely changes your whole look. With traditional saris, ghararas, lehengas or western gowns, dresses or tops, a different hairstyle is like a twist of taste! Complicated looking hairstyles make you seem fancy as ever, but of course good complicated ones and not the way overboard ones.

Style alert: Make sure your hair is not frizzy by taking proper care all year round and make sure your hairstyle is going with your outfit.

Heels
You might not wear heels to work, campus or during a trip to the mall but strutting them in at a winter brunch, a dinner party and of course at the weddings, is a brilliant idea to 'heighten' your look of the day or night. Heels, if used properly, can make you look the chicest person in the room.

Wing your eyes
While you can experiment those flooding million ways of putting on makeup, winging your eyeliner brings in glamour right away! It is the tiniest way to bring in a big change to your look. When you do not have time after work to dress up, simply put on some eyeliner, wing it and you are instantly fancy!
