Shiraz Restaurant opens in Dhaka
The Kolkata-based Shiraz Restaurant has opened its doors in Dhaka. Bringing with it centuries-old heritage of Mughal cuisine, Shiraz had its grand opening at Uday Tower in Gulshan-1 on 26 October, 2015. Pankaj Saran, Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh and many other renowned personalities of the country graced the event, which ended with the rendition of songs by a noted Indian artist.
Shiraz has a glorious history of blending the Mughal heritage in its cuisine. In the year 1940, Arshad Ali and Md. Hossain from Bihar arrived in Kolkata and started a small eatery called Shiraz. They adopted the secret recipes of the Mughal kitchen called `dum pukht', a style of cooking with aromatic ingredients.
The restaurant steadily grew in size and reputation. It opened branches in Mumbai, Bangalore and Dubai over the years, and has now come to Dhaka. Some of Shiraz's all-time favorite signature dishes are biriyani, chaap, rezala, murgh musallam, raan-e-Shiraz, kasha gosht, liver bhuna, firni, shahitukra, etc. The restaurant also has plans to start serving breakfast soon.
