Little Doctor
Children can play important role in peer education on hygiene, healthy lifestyle and prevention of diseases and promotion of health.
There are about 25 million primary level students in Bangladesh. Selected relatively senior students (Class III-V level) identified as Little Doctors may be engaged to provide peer education on important health related issues on limited scale without hampering their study.
The issue may include personal hygiene, control and prevention of intestinal worm, Rabies, Malaria, Dengue and improvement of nutrition.
Through the Little Doctors, other students will learn on the health related matters and in the process of delivering education the Little Doctors themselves will strengthen their understanding and practice on those.
In this process if even small portion of 25 million children or the Little Doctors adopt healthy lifestyle throughout their lives, that will have huge positive impact in future health of the nation.
Prof Dr Be-Nazir Ahmed, Line Director of the Communicable Disease Programme (CDC) of the DGHS informed that the pilot phase of the Little Doctor programme has already been carried out, while it is now going to be run across the country.
