Heavy rain in Netrakona triggers flash flood
Heavy downpour and onrush of water from hills across the border have triggered flash flood in Netrakona district, leaving at least 20,000 people marooned.
The worst affected upazilas are Durgapur, Kalmakanda and Khaliajuri.
According to Water Development Board sources, the Someshwari and the Ubdakhali, two major rivers of the district, marked sharp rise yesterday and were flowing over the danger level.
Durgapur-Ranikong road, the only link road between Durgapur upazila headquarters and bordering villages of Durgapur upazila has gone under water.
Flood also damaged Kalmakanda-Netrakona road at different points, snapping communications with the district headquarters.
Recently transplanted aman and vegetables in the affected upazilas have been damaged.
