2 arrested on war crime charges

Police arrested two people from Sehala colony area in the town on Wednesday night on charge of war crimes in 1971. The arrestees are Shawkat Hossain,62, and Monzur Hossain, 60, of the colony. Police said they were accused of murder, arson, looting and other crimes during the Liberation War. Their arrest followed a case filed on July 2 by Tamijul Haque Bhikhu of Mollartola village under Sadar upazila accusing three persons of killing his brother Patan Ali, 27, in 1971. Another accused is Humayun of the same area. They also allegedly tortured the inmates of another house and attacked villagers, looted and torched their houses.
