A teen-age boy who was a witness in a case filed against a man on charge of provoking his 'deceived' sister to commit suicide was stabbed to death on Monday night. Victim Mahbubur Rahman Nawab, 18, was son of Shamsul Huda of Rasulpur area. Police arrested five people immediately after the incident for interrogation. The arrestees are Safiqul Islam, Abdul Wadood, Makidul Islam, Arshad Ali and Rajib Ali. Police quoting locals said some people called Nawab out of his house at about 9:00pm and took him to an abandoned garage owned by Arif Hossain at Satkhira bus terminal. They severely stabbed him there and left the place at about 10:30pm. Nawab managed to come to Satkhira-Khulna Road in front of the bus terminal. People took him to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after about an hour. Nawab's grandmother Halima Khatun said that the victim was one of the witnesses in the case filed accusing a person for 'cheating' his sister Rini as a lover that led to her suicide. She suspected that the charge-sheeted accused and his men have murdered Nawab. However, police said they are yet to ascertain the reason behind the gruesome killing. Nawab''s elder sister Sharmin Sultana Rini, 19, fell in love with Abdul Wadood, son of Ayen Uddin of Sultanpur in the town. Later at one stage of the affair, Rini became pregnant. As Wadood refused to marry her, Rini poured kerosene on her body and set afire in front of her lover's rented house at Kalaroa at about 8:30am on July 20, 2008. Seriously burnt, she succumbed to her injuries on way to Sadar hospital on the same day. Investigation authorities submitted charge sheet against Abdul Wadood on August 25 last years. The case is now pending with the Women and Children Repression Prevention court at Satkhira for trial.
