45 sued for not disclosing poll expenditure
Forty-five candidates for the posts of upazila parishad chairman and vice-chairman in seven upazilas under Manikganj district have been sued for not submitting their election expenditure report to the returning officer in time.
Returning officer of the upazila election in the district, Manikganj Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Salah Uddin Chowdhury on Monday filed the case with Manikganj Sadar Police Station against the 45 candidates, said Azizul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Manikganj Sadar Police Station.
Thirteen of them contested for chairman posts, 18 for vice-chairman posts and 14 for woman vice-chairman posts.
The last time for submitting the election expenditure report of Ghior, Shivalaya, Harirampur, Singair, Manikganj Sadar and Saturia upazilas was 5:00pm on March 4 this year while March 13 was the deadline for the candidates of Daulatpur upazila, said Returning Officer Salah Uddin Chowdhury.
The sued chairman candidates are Md Azharul Islam, Md Abul Kashem of Daulatpur upazila, Md Abdul Mannan of Ghior upazila, Md Moniruzzaman Monakka, Md Anwar Hossain Badal, Md Nuruzzaman, Md Mortuza Ali and Syed Zalal Uddin Ahammed of Shivalaya upazila, Khan Mohammad Rumi of Singair upazila, Muhammad Moazzem Hossain Tusher, Md Daud Ali Hiru, AKM Nurul Haque and Abdul Kuddus Khan Mojlish of Saturia upazila.
The vice-chairman candidates are Md Monzurul Haque Khan of Daulatpur upazila, SR Reza, Md Ali Akbar (also known as Babul Akter Monjur) and Md Babul Mandal of Shivalaya upazila, Md Abul Hasan Pintu, Md Rafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, Zahir Ahmed, Md Faridur Rahman and Dilip Roy of Harirampur upazila, Moftezur Rahman Khan and Md Tofazzel Hossain of Singair upazila, Mizanur Rahman Khan, Md Sanwar Hossain Sana, CMA Khalek, Helal Uddin Ahammed, and Suvash Chandra Rajbangshi of Manikganj Sadar upazila, Afsar Uddin Ahammed and Md Foyzullah of Saturia upazila.
The women vice-chairman candidates are Ferdausi Begum, Monwara Begum and Meherun of Daulatpur upazila, Tahmina Akter Lata, Joynab Begum, Ruma Khanam and Laila Amin of Shivalaya upazila, Hafiza Khatun and Afroza Rahman of Singair upazila, Khaleda Begum, Zinat Rehena Rina, Murshida Parvin and Romeza Akter Khan Mahin of Manikganj Sadar upazila and Hasmat Ara of Saturia upazila.
Earlier on July 23, Manikganj deputy commissioner and returning officer of the district in ninth parliament election, GM Saleh Uddin filed a case with Manikganj Sadar Police Station against Khelafat Majlish candidate for Manikganj-3 constituency Habibur Rahman for the same reason.
The police gave charge sheet against Habibur Rahman on July 25, said OC Azizul Haque.
