Injured Pirojpur Krishak Dal leader dies

Krishak Dal leader Gazi Salauddin, injured in a clash between two factions of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in Pirojpur on Thursday, died at Labaid Hospital in the capital yesterday. Salauddin was president of Pirojpur district unit of Krishak Dal, a front organisation of BNP. Another critically injured during the incident, Sheikh Emdadul Huq Masud, secretary of Pirojpur Suhrawardi College unit of JCD, is undergoing treatment at a private clinic in Dhaka. Salahuddin was rushed to a hospital in Khulna after sustaining serious injuries in a factional clash of JCD in Pirojpur town on Thursday evening, said Pirojpur municipality councillor Abdus Salam Baten and family members. As his condition deteriorated, Salauddin was admitted to the Labaid Hospital on Friday where he died at midnight. At least eight people including Salauddin and Sheikh Masud were injured in the clash that occurred between two groups led by district JCD President Hasanul Kabir and Secretary Riazuddin Rana over observing the day of BNP Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman's release. Later police controlled the situation. Pirojpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mir Fasiar Rahman said the case lodged by Gazi Salauddin's brother Gazi Giasuddin on Thursday against nine accused in connection with clashes and injuries will be turned into a murder case. Police is trying to arrest the accused and teams are patrolling the town to control the situation following the death, the OC said.
