104 sued in 4 dists for not disclosing expenditure

Cases against 104 candidates for the posts of upazila parishad chairman and vice-chairman in different upazilas of Sylhet, Nilphamari, Satkhira and Moulvibazar districts have been filed for not submitting poll expenditure reports to the returning officers concerned in time. In Sylhet, 104 candidates were sued on September 1 for not submitting their election expenditure statements to the returning officer within 30 days of gazette notification, according to our staff correspondent. Of them, 37 contested for chairman posts, 43 for vice chairman posts and 24 for woman vice chairman posts. Returning Officer ATM Mamunur Rashid, also the additional deputy commissioner, filed the case with Sylhet Kotwali Police Station. Our Nilphamari correspondent reported that 54 candidates contested for the posts of chairman, vice-chairman and woman vice-chairman in six upazilas of the district have been sued for not submitting their poll expenditure reports to the returning officer in time. Of the candidate, 38 contested for chairman posts, 28 for vice chairman posts and 26 for woman vice chairman posts. Returning Office ATM Siddikur Rahman, also the additional deputy commissioner (General), filed the case with Nilphamari Sadar Police Station August 31. In Satkhira, ten candidates for the posts of upazila parishad chairman and vice-chairman in seven upazilas of the district have been sued for not submitting their election expenditure reports to the returning officer, reports our correspondent. Four of them contested for chairman posts, four for vice-chairman posts and two for woman vice-chairman posts. Returning Officer Mukesh Chandra Biswas, also the additional deputy commissioner, filed separate cases with Debhata, Kalaroa, Tala and Shyamnagar Police Stations. The last time for submitting election expenditure reports was February 22 this year. The sued chairman candidates are Firoz Ahmed Swapan of Kalaroa upazila, Sheikh Nurul Haque of Tala upazila, Alhaj Abdul Gani of Debhata upazila and Mujibul Haque of Shyamnagar upazila. The vice-chairman candidates are Abdul Aziz of Kalaroa upazila, Sirajul Islam of Debhata upazila and Ataur Rahman and Moral Abdur Rashid of Tala upazila. The women vice-chairmen candidates are Monowara Faruque of Kalaroa upazila and Khaleda Ayub of Shyamnagar upazila. Our Moulvibazar correspondent adds: Cases were filed against two upazila vice chairman candidates of Baralekha upazila under Moulvibazar district on September 3 for not submitting their election expenditure reports to the returning officer. Returning Officer Mahbub Shahin, also the additional deputy commissioner (General), filed the cases with Baralekha Police Station against Nurul Islam and Saiful Islam who contested for the post of vice chairman of Baralekha Upazila Parishad in January this year.
