Four outlaws get life for killing JSD leader
A Chuadanga court yesterday sentenced four outlaws to life imprisonment for killing Jatyia Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) Alamdanga unit president Majid in 1999.
The convicts are Nuruzzaman Laltu, founder of Banglar Communist Party (BCP-Laltu), party cadres Atiar Rahman, Goljar Hossain and Nazrul Islam.
Of them, Nazrul is absconded while the remaining three are in Chuadanga jail.
District and Sessions Judge Ashraf Hossain pronounced the verdict in presence of outlaws Laltu, Atiar and Goljar. The court also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each, in default they are to suffer another year in jail.
According to the prosecution, the outlaws stormed into the house of JSD Alamdanga upazila unit president Abdul Majid on the night of March 14, 1999. They picked up Majid at gunpoint, took him to a place nearby and killed him.
Abdus Sajed, son of Majid, filed a case with Alamdanga Police Station on August 19, 1999.
In his case statement, the complainant said they could not file the case soon after the incident as the outlaws threatening the family members with death. “We filed the case after BCP chief Laltu surrendered to the police under general amnesty declared by the then government in July, 23, 1999,” he said.
After investigation, police submitted charge sheet of the case on March 31, 2003.
