Arrest warrant against cop for torturing teacher

A Gaibandha court has issued an arrest warrant against a police sub-inspector (SI) on charge of torturing a physically challenged collage teacher in custody. Judge Azizur Rahman of Judicial Magistrate's Court on Tuesday issued the order for arresting Sub-Inspector Mostafizur Rahman of Gaibandha Sader Police Station in connection with a case filed with the court by victim Golam Sadeque Lebu, a teacher of Dharmapur Abdul Aziz Degree College, under Sundarpur upazila Police arrested Lebu on July 20, 2009 following a case filed against him by the lessees of Daripur Bazar as he protested imposition of high rate of toll on the shop owners. In the case statement, the complainant alleged that he was tied up and blindfolded at the police station and beaten up severely by Sub-Inspector Mostafizur Rahman. Lebu further stated that he was released on bail last month and under treatment of a local doctor. After hearing, the judge issued a warrant for arrest of the cop.
