Police on Tuesday night arrested three activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Shahjalal University of Sience and Technology (SUST) unit for capturing four rooms at a dormitory. They are Iqbal, Ujjal and Uttam. Police also recovered two pipeguns and a billhook from their possession. The arrestees were yesterday produced in the Judicial Magistrate's Court that sent them to jail. Police said the arrestees were wanted in a number of criminal cases. Campus sources said a group of 15 BCL men occupied four rooms at Shah Paran Hall in the early hours of Monday and left the campus putting the rooms under lock and key. Following a complaint lodged by the university authorities with the local police station, police raided the hall at midnight and picked up the three from the occupied rooms. The arrestees are among the ten BCL men who were expelled from the university after a series of clashes between two rival factions of the ruling party backed students organisation on August 11, sources added. Police said the expelled BCL men attacked the dormitory and captured the rooms belonging to the activists of their rival faction. The university authorities deployed police force at the dormitory to prevent further incident there.
