30 shops gutted

At least 30 shops at Mokramprotap Bazar in Sadar upazila were gutted in a devastating fire on Saturday. Witnesses said the fire caused by short-circuit at the shop of one Yakub Ali in the morning, quickly engulfed the whole market. Shop owners and locals brought the fire under control after a two-hour struggle. Fire fighters could not reach the spot due to lack of road communication. At least five shop owners received injuries while extinguishing the fire. They were given first aid in local clinics. Meanwhile, president of Mokramprotap Bazar Shop Owners Association said the estimated loss due to the fire would be not less than Tk 30 lakh.
