Mystery shrouds death of a newly married woman at Dokropara village in Panchagarh town early yesterday. Her in-laws claimed the incident as suicide but the neighbors and victim's family members termed it a pre-meditated murder. The victim was identified as Arzina Begum,18, wife of Karim Uddin Dablu. Arzina's family and police said about one and a half months ago Arzina, daughter of Debaru of Mithapukur village under Sadar upazila was married to Karim Uddin Dablu of Dokropara village. But she went to her in-laws' house only 15 days ago. Arzina's family members and neighbours said her husband used to torture her almost regularly. Arzina's mother Lutfa Begum and aunt Baby alleged that Dablu and his family members tortured her to death as there were marks of injuries on her legs and other parts of the body. Baby said when police recovered the body she was present and saw the injury marks and there were no signs of suicide. They said, in-laws of the victim locked in an altercation from the day before Eid with her husband after he sold a gold chain that was given by Arzina's family. Arzina's younger brother Zafar told reporters that when he visited his sister's house on Eid day, her sister told him about torture by her husband. Sub Inspector (SI) of Panchagarh police station Din Mohammad said he also found two red marks of injury on upper portion of legs. We are waiting for autopsy report, he said. Dablu however said that at about 3:00am yesterday when he woke up to respond to nature's call, he found his wife hanging from the ceiling of the room. Officer in-Charge (OC) of Panchagarh police station said no case was filed till filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
