Police rescued an abducted schoolgirl from Noldanga village under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenidah and arrested her alleged rapist on Monday night while Mithapukur police arrested an army man on Tuesday night on charge of raping a nurse in Rangpur. Police said Shishir Parmanik of Shastitola area in Jessore town and his gang abducted a schoolgirl from Shankarpur on September 24, reports a correspondent from Jessore. Following her father's filing an abduction case against six people with Jessore Kotoali Police Station on Sunday, police arrested Shishir and rescued the girl from his relative's house at Noldanga village on Monday night. In her statement before a Jessore court on Tuesday, the girl said Shishir forcibly brought her to his relative's house and raped her several times. The criminal also marked her forehead with red line, the sign of a Hindu married woman, although she is a Muslim girl, she said. Our Rangpur correspondent reports: Mithapukur plice arrested an army sergeant working at Rangpur Cantonment on Tuesday night as he was accused of raping a nurse of a private clinic in Rangpur. Military police took the accused, Mizanur Rahman, to the cantonment after a general diary (GD) was lodged with Mithapukur Police Station. Mizanur developed physical relation with the nurse promising to marry her, Mithapukur police said referring to the GD. As Mizanur went to the woman's village home in Mithapukur upazila following her invitation on Monday night, she asked him to marry her, police said. But Mizanur declined to marry and the woman with the help of local people took her to Mithapukur Police Station on Tuesday night when police lodged a GD in this connection and informed Rangpur Cantonment, Mithapukur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Altaf Hossain said. Then an army team took him to Rangpur Cantonment, he added. Later Mithapukur police sent the nurse to Rangpur Kotwali Police Station and the officer-in-charge there lodged a case under Woman and Children Repression Prevention Act and sent her to Rangpur Central Jail through the court to keep her in safe custody.
