PCJSS leader abducted, former PCP man shot

A leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) was abducted allegedly by the armed cadres of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) from his house at Kengrachhari village under Bilaichhari upazila on Friday night. The kidnapped leader is Bimal Nanda Chakma alias Gulliver, 62, vice-president of PCJSS Bilaichhari unit. Police quoted locals as saying that a group of armed men came to Bimal's house at around 11:00pm and picked him up at gunpoint. The law enforcers could not rescue the PCJSS leader as of filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday. Meanwhile, a former leader of Pahari Chhatra Prishad (PCP), student front of the PCJSS, was shot by unidentified gunmen in the town on Saturday night. The victim, Sumet Chakma, 35, son of Jamini Mohon Chakma, received bullets in the head and chest. He is now undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. In a press release issued by Sajib Chakma, assistant secretary of PCJSS central committee, yesterday strongly condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. Our Khagrachhari correspondent reports: Police yesterday recovered the body of an indigenous person from Jungle near Battali under Laxmichhari upazila of Khagrachhari district. The dead was identified as Rukhoi Marma, a member of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) central committee. Police sent the body to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital for autopsy. UPDF blamed Chittagong Hill Tracts National Front (CHTNF) for the killing and demanded arrest the killers.
