3 Jubo League men sent to jails in Rajshahi, Barisal
Police yesterday arrested city Jubo League vice president Sirajul Islam Khokon alias 'Bhangri' Khokon from Rajshahi Railway Station area.
Earlier the court issued a warrant against Khokon as he remained absconding in a case for a long time, said M Akramul Hossain, assistant commissioner of Boalia Police Station.
Khokon was accused in a case filed on September 27 in 2001 following armed clashes over establishing control in Rajshahi Bus Terminal area.
Although Khokon got bail in the case, he did not appear before the court concerned and remained absconding since the period of previous caretaker government.
Referring to general diaries, police said Bhangri Khokon was engaged in bomb making and arms trade.
Our Barisal Correspondent reports: Two convicted Jubo League cadres were sent to jail on Sunday after they surrendered before two courts.
Sources said Faruk Ahmed alias 'Panama' Faruk, ring leader of notorious 'Panama Bahini' of the city and Chhokku, his brother and second in command of the gang, surrendered before the courts here in the morning. They were on the run since the election on October 1, 2001.
Both were tried in absentia and jailed for 10 years on June 26, 2007 and 7 years on September 18, 2003 by the two courts in two separate cases of extortion, looting, abduction and torture.
Panama Faruk and Chhokku were also wanted in six other cases including for Jubo Dal leader Rahat murder in the city.
