BCL rivals at Pirojpur college clash: 15 hurt
At least 15 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in factional clashes on Pirojpur Government College campus and at General Hospital yesterday.
Police said two factions of BCL college unit--one led by its president Mezbah Uddin Sabu and the other by college students union general secretary Faisal Mahbub Shuva--clashed over control of the campus at around 11:00am, leaving ten activists from both sides injured.
The clash spread to Pirojpur General Hospital after the injured were admitted there. At least five BCL activists belonging to both factions were injured in the clash.
Those undergoing treatment at the general hospital are Mezbah Uddin Sabu, Faisal Mahbub Shuva, Mashiur Rahman, Mohsin, Russel Kazi Jumman, Asaduzzaman, Arif, Regan and Sadhan Barua.
Police rushed to the hospital, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed on the college campus to avert any further incident.
When contacted, College Principal Prof Saroj Kumar Roy said the academic council will soon hold a meeting to take necessary measures to ensure peaceful academic atmosphere on the campus.
