Fight against poverty

Md. Abdul Hamid, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Business Administration, SUST, Sylhet
Recently, the government has taken different initiatives to encourage people to fight poverty. It's obviously a good venture. But 'work' is more effective than 'word'. We understand that poverty is our number one enemy but how can we get rid of it is a billion dollar question. Only holding some campaigns and taking oath in an air-conditioned auditorium is not enough. As it is an agro-based country, we have to develop our agricultural sector first, then gradually others. To do so, we have to go to the farmers, have to understand their real problems and take need-based and effective steps. If these can be done it may bring some positive results. It is time for starting work to build a poverty free Bangladesh.
