All 8 including Monindra acquitted of charges

A Chittagong court yesterday acquitted all the eight accused, including former chairman of Khagrachhari Hill District Council Monindra Lal Tripura, in businessman Anupam Tripura murder case. Seven other accused are Mosharraf Hossain, Shanti Priyo Chakma, Awal Gazi, Mrinal Chakma, Parendra Lal Tripura, Humayun Kabir and Kulnath Baishnab. Judge M Shafiqul Karim of the Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal pronounced the verdict. Forty-three witnesses were cross-examined during the trial. According to the case, Anupam fell sick after taking liquor along with the above mentioned eight people at a hotel in the capital on July 10, 2007 and was rushed to Square Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Anupam's wife Alpana Tripura filed a case against the eight with Khagrachhari Sadar Police Station on July 14, accusing the eight of killing her husband by having him take liquor mixed with poison. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Police Station Ruhul Amin Siddiqui submitted the charge sheet on February 22, 2009 and charge was framed on June 13. Expressing his dissatisfaction with the verdict, Public Prosecutor (PP) Ayub Khan said they will go to the higher court against the verdict.
