Bring Shibli's killers to book, demand people of 6 villages
Several hundred people brought out a procession on Sunday demanding arrest and punishment to killers of housewife Shibli Begum in Shaghata upazila.
Organised by local NGO Nijera Kori, men and women from six villages-- Pabantair, Jharabarsha, Ghuridaha, Hasilkandi and Chinirpotol--assembled to protest heinous killing of the housewife.
They paraded main roads of Shaghata upazila town in a procession and held a protest rally at Dak Banglow ground. Presided by Alimuddin, president of Upazila Bhumihin Samity, it was addressed by Mamunur Rashid Mamum, regional director of Nijera Kori, Rafiqul Islam, Golzer Rahman, Tajul Islam and Habibur Rahman.
The speakers demanded immediate arrest of killers and their trial for capital punishment.
Locals said, on September 18 late night, Shibli Begum, a housewife of village Pabantair under Shaghata upazila was strangled by criminals.
The next day, Morjina Begum, mother of the victim, filed a case with Shaghata police station accusing five people including Moshiur Rahman, husband of Shibli.
The accused are still at large as police failed to nab anybody despite request and pressure from victim's family and various organisations.
