Tk 2.5cr bill drawn without sinking any tube well!
6 engineers, 3 cashiers and 20 contractors chargesheeted
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has submitted charge sheets against six ex-engineers and three cashiers of Barisal divisional office of the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) and 20 contractors for drawing bills of Tk 2.53 core without sinking tube wells.
Assistant Director of Barisal Divisional ACC office Rammohan Nath, also the investigation Officer (IO) of the case, submitted four charge sheets to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court on Sunday.
The accused are ex-chief engineers MD Kadaruzzaman and Abdur Rahaman Mia, ex-executive engineer MA Wahab Mia, ex-deputy divisional engineers Abdul Bari and Nurul Huda Chowdhury, ex-deputy assistant engineer Abdus Salam, and cashiers Sirajul Islam, Miraj Hasan and Ali Mortuza
Executive Engineer Md Yunus Ali filed a criminal case on November 3, 2007 with Kotwali Police Station against only 30 contractors for drawing bills of Tk 2.53 core without sinking tube wells during 1995-96 and 2000-2001 financial years.
The case was later referred to the ACC that conducted an investigation and found the involvement of six engineers and three cashiers of DPHE and 20 contractors in the corruption.
DPHE Barisal division sanctioned the money for sinking tube wells in 11 southwestern districts including Faridpur, Sariatpur, Madaripur, Rajbari and Kushtia.
