Five robbers held in Pabna, 6 kidnappers in Patuakhali

Five alleged robbers were held and arms recovered from them in Pabna yesterday while six people held in Patuakhali on Tuesday on charge of kidnapping a businessman. Our Correspondent in Pabna reports: Atghoria police early yesterday arrested five alleged robbers and recovered firearms and sharp weapons from them at Sanjoypur village of Atghoria upazila. The arrestees are Zohurul Islam,26, son of Abdur Rahman of village Kumareshwarpur, Amol Kumar Sarkar,35, son of Gour Sarkar of Sanjoypur, Swapon Ali,25, son of Hossain Pramanik of Shanjoypur, Rimal Fakir,30, son of Yakub Fakir and Billal Fakir,30, son of Hoyzal Fakir of village Chandva under Atghoria upazila. Police said, the five were taking preparation for robbery at Sanjoypur. A pistol, five bullets, a knife, a machete and other sharp weapons were recovered from their possession. Officer in-charge (OC) of Atghoria police station Enamul Karim said, all the arrestees are hardened robbers. Zahurul, leader of the gong, is a listed criminal, he said. In Patuakhali, Rab personnel rescued a businessman and held his six abductors at Galachipa upazila headquarters Tuesday. Rab sources said, the gang kidnapped businessman Uttam Kumar Samaddar, 30, from Dharandi Bazaar in Sadar upazila Monday afternoon, reports UNB. The victim was then confined to a room of Dharandi Union Parishd at night where he was tortured and his cell phone and Tk 5,000 looted. The kidnappers later took Uttam to the house of one Babul Master in Galachipa Tuesday morning and demanded Tk 1.50 lakh ransom. Being tipped-off, the elite force raided the house and rescued Uttam and arrested six kidnappers --Russell Chowdhury, Swapan Das, Limon, Arjun Das, Uzzal Das and Bina Rani Das -- at about 1pm Tuesday.
