Police arrested six members of a gang engaged in stealing CNG-run auto-rickshaws from different areas of the city during a three--day special drive that ended on Saturday. The arrestees are Saiful Islam, 28, Md Harun, 25, and Md Jamal Hossain, 22, of Fatikchhair upazila, and Md Azam, 20, Md Nazim, 24, and Md Wahidul Alam alias Shimul, 22, of Hathazari upazila. A special team, led by ASP Babul Akter of Hathazari Circle, arrested Md Harun in Battoli area under the city's Panchlaish Police Station in the early hours of November 5. On his confessional statement, police arrested Saiful in Sholoshahar area, Shimul and Jamal Hossain at Oxygen intersection and Azam in Battoli area on November 6. Nazim was arrested in gate no 2 area of Sholoshahar early Saturday. During preliminary interrogation, the criminals confessed to lifting two auto-rickshaws after killing the drivers and their helpers in June and October. The first incident occurred at Karbalar Tila near Kanchan Nagar Rubber Garden of Fatikchhair on the night of June 22 while the second near Madrasaghata Bridge under the same upazila on the night of October 14.
